Artillery Regiments

During the Civil War, Artillery regiments were primarily divided into Light and Heavy Artillery units. Light Artillery regiments generally operated field artillery,  light pieces that often traveled with the armies. Heavy Artillery regiments operated siege and garrison artillery - heavy pieces that could be used either in attacking or defending fortified places.
